Laurie Deanna Wright, born on September 8, 1982, in Orange, New Jersey, departed this world on February 18, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and cherished memories that will resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Laurie began her professional journey at the tender age of seventeen, working as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Upland Convalescent Home located in Upland, California and as a private care nurse for a family friend. Her compassion for others guided her career decisions, eventually leading her to Las Vegas, where she sought to be near her beloved oldest sister and nephew. In the vibrant city of Las Vegas, Laurie found her calling as a server in various restaurants for over 23 years, adored by her many regular customers who still fondly remember her kindness and cheerful spirit. She concluded her working life as a credit collector, showcasing her unwavering dedication in every endeavor she pursued.
Laurie's zest for life was reflected in her joyous gatherings, where she hosted delightful fish fry and fried chicken themed parties, often hiring a DJ to spark revelry and a bouncer to ensure the children had fun in a safe environment. Her annual Halloween parties were legendary, transforming into carnival-like celebrations filled with games like apple bobbing, disco rooms, bouncers, and hay stacks for photo opportunities. These events were not merely parties; they were heartfelt celebrations of community, family, and friendship, drawing together family, friends, and co-workers who became family.
Laurie was a truly loving and caring individual, always ready to lend a listening ear without judgment. She was a cheerleader for everyone around her, cultivating an atmosphere of support and positivity, even for those she had just met. Her vibrant personality radiated warmth and compassion, reminding each person she encountered of their worth.
In her personal life, Laurie was a dedicated mother to Khalil Sasser, Kelis Jones, and Kennedi Wright, as well as a loving bonus mother to Kambrea and Kaya Wright. She was proud of instilling in her children the importance of independent thought, always encouraging them to explore the "why" behind their answers and urging them to think outside the box. She celebrated her role as a fun Auntie, partaking in activities with the younger children and young adults, from attending her nephew’s concerts to rollerblading in the park.
Laurie cultivated her love for gardening, transforming her home into a lush sanctuary filled with plants. Her living room resembled a small jungle, complete with a greenhouse and all the necessary tools to nurture her green thumb. From adult gatherings to playful street races with her husband, Kandia, which she often won, Laurie's vibrant spirit was infectious, ensuring that laughter and joy followed her wherever she went.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Kandia Wright; her children, Khalil Sasser, Kelis Jones, and Kennedi Wright; her bonus children, Kambrea and Kaya Wright; her loving mother, Barbara Jones-Singletary; and her father, Norman Longust, who predeceased her. Laurie also leaves behind her siblings and in-laws, including Mr. and Mrs. William and Jamillah Baggett, Mr. and Mrs. Murad and Tiana Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny and Patricia (Tanerrah) Powell II, Mr. and Mrs. Jason and LaShanna Cleveringa, and Amina Jones. The bond she shared with her many cousins was as strong as that of siblings, and she was adored by a myriad of nieces and nephews who meant the world to her.
The impactful role Laurie played in the lives of her loved ones can be encapsulated in the words of her wedding song, "Rock" by Plies, echoing the profound influence she had on all who were privileged to know her. Laurie's spirit will be deeply missed but forever cherished, leaving an indelible mark on every life she touched.
