Laurel Violet ObituaryVisit the Harrell Funeral Home of Austin website to view the full obituary.Laurel Elaine Martinez VioletAugust 9, 1982 - March 5, 2026Laurel's beautiful and gracious soul is no longer with us in this world. Although her life was too short it was made complete and colorful by her joy of cuteness and sparkle. She led a vibrant and full life best described as being "singularly herself." She found joy in her many close friends and her family. Her inclusive love for the people around her made her a catalyst for bringing people together in new and different friendships.Laurel was preceded in death by her grandfather Charles Scholz (Papa), grandfather Richard Martinez, grandmother Rebecca (De La Garza) Martinez, and her very dear friend and great-grandmother Lorene Mathews (Peppy).Continuing to be inspired by her kindness are her parents Rene and Ann Marie (Scholz) Martinez, her longtime companion and beloved partner Joey Marez, his parents Joe and Kathy Marez, his siblings Dr. Kim Slaughter and Clint Marez, and their respective partners Dr. David Slaughter and Whitney Boucher, and Laurel's family members grandmother Sally Enloe Scholz, Aunt Diane (Scholz) and Uncle Chip Jackson, Uncle Rick and Aunt Denise (Touart) Martinez, Aunt Rachel (Martinez) and Uncle Tom Desot, and Maryanne (Horne) Martinez, cousins Madison (Jackson) and Ryan Brown, Grayson, Reagan, and Kemper Jackson, and Monique, Gabriel, Jacob, and Marisa Martinez, as well as MANY friends- including her feathered companion Chicory, who will all remember her dearly. She was naturally drawn to the eclectic Austin community, and as a twenty-year resident was able to nurture her creative spirit and her love of music, and was able to bond with kindred spirits. She was an enthusiast of miniatures, an obsessive collector of Tamagotchi, and a live music lover, even playing mandolin and trumpet with her father's bands. Yarn was another enduring interest (knitting, spinning and dyeing wools), as were horses, and all animals, furry and feathered. She devoured books from an early age and retained everything she read which made her a walking resource of knowledge and trivia.During their years together, Laurel and Joey continually crafted unique gifts for each other, out of yarn, leather, antler, felt, etc. Her pride in his talents always shone with warm affection, and onlookers were always amazed by her singular style. Their love for each other inspires us to hold on tight to our loved ones and treasure every minute as if it were our last. After graduating from Clear Lake High School in 2000 she received her degree in English at Roosevelt University in Chicago in 2004 after which she chased her dream of attending culinary school and finishing as a pastry chef. She then applied her skills at Swedish Hill Bakery and Central Market Bakery in Austin. From there she worked as an editor with Pearson, a publishing group for educational materials and enjoyed a short stint editing novels before acquiring a position as a Legal Zoom representative. Finally, she landed at Hotze Runkle Law Firm who assist their clients to receive fair compensation for the harm resulting from asbestos exposure.Laurel will always be remembered for her inquisitive mind, her infectious silliness, and her ferocious defense of her beliefs without judging others. She would wish for us to honor her life in a positive way by emulating her love of life as we continue the journey through our own lives.Rene, Ann Marie, and Joey suggest that you please consider a contribution in Laurel's memory to the Endometriosis Foundation of America in lieu of flowers.Endometriosis Foundation of Americahttps://www.endofound.org/Select Donate Now in Honor or In Memory OfFor Recipient's email list [email protected]Suggested AccommodationsLa Quinta Inn and Suites by Wyndham Austin Southwest4424 South Mopac Expressway, Austin, Texas, 78735Phone: (512) 899-3000https://www.ihg.com/holidayinnexpress/hotels/us/en/sunset-valley/aussv/hoteldetail?cm_mmc=GoogleMaps-_-EX-_-US-_-AUSSVHoliday Inn Express and Suites Austin SW- Sunset Valley by IHG4892 U.S. Hwy. 290 West.
