Laureen Gwen Theiss

June 9, 1959 March 11, 2026

Spring, TX

Laureen Theiss, 66, of Spring, Texas, passed away on March 11, 2026, in The Woodlands, Texas. Born on June 9, 1959, in Houston, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Dorothy Sopchak.

Laureen was married for 48 years to her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Van Theiss. Together they raised three children in the Klein community. She worked as a secretary for her father at Sopchak Plumbing and later as secretary and owner of Theiss Plumbing, though she often joked that her most important role was being Van’s boss. She found great joy in reading, shopping, trips to Canton Trade Days, gambling, fishing, cooking for others, and baking her famous Christmas cookies. She loved playing Bingo and Bunco, gathering with family each year, riding around the ranch, dancing at the local VFW halls, and cheering for her beloved Houston Astros.

Above all, Laureen was a devoted mother and a loving MeMaw to her nine grandchildren. Even during her illness, they brought her immense joy and laughter. She supported her children and grandchildren in every way, from cheering at baseball games to watching them play at the ranch.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Dorothy Sopchak, and her brother, Carl Sopchak. She is survived by her husband, Van Theiss; her children, Stephanie Collier (Aaron), Kevin Theiss (Brittany), and Nathan Theiss (Hayley); and her grandchildren, Hayes Collier, Brantley Theiss, Luke Theiss, Haiden Collier, Hadley Collier, Emma Theiss, Brock Theiss, Harrison Collier, and Emry Theiss. She is also survived by her brother, Ronald Sopchak; her sisters, Karen Van Marter and Tina Spitzenberger (Howard); and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Laureen will live on in the love she gave, the lessons she taught, and the countless memories she created.
