Laura Lynn "Matson" Hunt

Laura Lynn Hunt, born Laura Lynn Matson on March 25, 1961, in St. Johns, Michigan, passed away on March 12, 2026, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, surrounded by her family. She was 64. Diagnosed with cancer just four weeks earlier, Laura faced her illness with the same quiet strength that defined her life.

The oldest of four children born to Ronald and Maxine Matson, Laura graduated from St. Johns High School in 1979. She dedicated more than twenty-four years of her career to the Mid-Michigan District Health Department before retiring in 2023. A soft-spoken and gentle soul, Laura found her greatest joy in her family. She cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren, particularly during family trips to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where Paradise held a special place in her heart. An avid photographer, she had a gift for capturing life’s simple beauties, from sunrises and sunsets to treasured images of her grandchildren.

Laura is survived by her son, Jeremy (Jessica) Benner; her daughter, Carrie Benner; her beloved grandchildren, Taylor, Alexa, Jayden, and Hendrix; her mother, Maxine Matson; her siblings, Diane Sackett, Daniel Matson, and Matt (Missy) Matson; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family members, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Matson, in 2025, her grandparents, and her sister-in-law, Michelle Matson.
