Laura “Ida” Marineau passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the Lincoln House in Barre, VT.

Laura was born to Calixte Champigny and Exilper Labonte on January 7, 1935, in Holland, VT. Laura was one of eleven children.

Laura attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Newport, VT, and graduated as Valedictorian. Laura also attended Johnson State College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree. Laura worked as an Administrative Assistant for the VT State Treasurer for 37 years, until her retirement in 1996.

Laura married Marcel Marineau in 1954, and they later divorced, but they had four amazing children: Donna, Amy, Valerie, and Christopher. They made their home in Montpelier, VT, for many years.

Laura had many interests, some of which included being a dedicated member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Montpelier as well as a member of the St. Augustine’s Choir. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit and the love she gave to her many cats and dogs. She also loved her books and movies.

Laura is survived by her children Donna Lewis (Craig) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Amy Schatzman (Keith) of Gilbert, AZ, Valerie Sancibrian (Norman) of Oak Island, NC, and Christopher Marineau (Joy) of Williamstown, VT. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The family is very grateful to Sarah Rowan, devoted Director, and all the dedicated staff at Lincoln House, where Ida had resided for a little over 2 years. The wonderful care, kindness, compassion, and support will always be remembered. Thank you as well to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice.

A graveside service will be held in Newport at the convenience of the immediate family.

Arrangements are in the care of Guare and Sons Funeral Home in Montpelier, VT.
