Larry William Brewster, 76 of Gautier, MS passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
He was born on March 6, 1950, in West Plains, Missouri to George William Brewster and Jean Marie Brewster. He grew up in Oregon and Nebraska and graduated from Albion High School in 1968. His passions were golf and home remodeling. His latest hobby was Genealogy. He knew his ancestors on the Mayflower but recently discovered he was related to Godfrey of Bouillon who was made king of Jerusalem after the first Crusade in 1099.
Larry enlisted in the Navy in March 1970. His Navy career spanned twenty-two years training as Electronics Technician at Treasure Island, San Francisco. He served on ships in San Diego, Long Beach, Alameda, CA, and Norfolk, VA. He also served at communication stations in Hawaii, Adak Alaska, Keflavik, Iceland, and two tours at Deigo Garcia in the Indian Ocean. He rose through the enlisted ranks to Chief Petty Officer and was commissioned through the Limited Duty Officer program before retiring in 1992 as a Lieutenant. He then worked for twenty-two years in Software Development.
While serving in Pascagoula, he met and married his wife, Mary Jane. They celebrated their thirty- fifth anniversary last November. As a result of Pulmonary Fibrosis, he received his double lung transplant at Ochsner’s in December 2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George William Brewster and Jean Marie Brewster; siblings, Richard, Cecil, and Louise Kramer; and daughter-in- law, Edith Williams.
Larry is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; three stepchildren, Jeffrey Williams (Jessica), Neil Williams, and Brooke Hall. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Brandon (Logan) Killen, Haley (Brandon) Parks, Adam Williams, Aaron Williams, and Dana Pichon.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Gautier Methodist Backpack Buddies or the Jackson County Animal Shelter.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Gautier First United Methodist Church. Friends may visit one hour prior.
