Larry Wayne White was born in Goodland on June 12, 1943 to Fred E. and Velma (Rice) White. He grew up alongside his two sisters, Shirley and Janice, and remained a lifelong resident of Goodland. From an early age, Larry understood the value of hard work, beginning with shoveling snow by hand as a boy no older than twelve. He went on to build a successful career as a painting, drywall, and general contractor, taking on commercial projects within a 300-mile radius of his hometown.
Those who knew him recognized his deep dedication to his work and his quiet love of caring for his vehicles. He found special joy in helping family and friends whenever he could. Though he endured the profound loss of his beloved children, Jennifer and Jeff, and later suffered permanent nerve damage from shingles in 2006 that brought years of chronic, untreatable pain, Larry faced life with resilience. In time, declining health led him to welcome rest and relief from suffering.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn, his grandson Malcom and wife Jessica along with their children Matix and Emersyn of Hutchinson, and his granddaughter Kassidy and her husband Brett of near Jetmore, Kansas. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Rick Fitzgerald and family, as well as other relatives and friends. In accordance with his wishes, following the many difficult funerals he had attended in his lifetime, Larry’s farewell was a private inurnment beside his children.
