December 5, 1942— March 10, 2026
Sunfield, MI
Larry Coats passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, at the age of 83 in Sunfield, Michigan. Born on December 5, 1942, in Marshall, Michigan, to the late Paul and Fay (De Cant) Coats, Larry lived a life defined by quiet dedication, service, and a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys.
He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1961 and served his country with pride before beginning a long career with General Motors. A lifetime member of the VFW Post 701 and a member of the American Legion Post 225, Larry remained connected to his military roots throughout his life. He had a lifelong passion for working on his Ford Broncos, often found with a wrench in hand and a smile on his face as he tinkered with engines and repaired whatever needed fixing. In quieter moments, he enjoyed watching old Westerns, fishing, and golfing. Above all, he was a devoted family man who, despite his stubborn streak and the twinkle that often accompanied it, always placed his loved ones first.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Sr. and Faye Coats, his stepmother Darlene Coats, his brother Paul Coats, his sisters Jane, Mary, and Phyllis, and his son Brian Coats.
He is survived by his devoted daughter, Connie (Richard) Snover; brothers Robert (Tina) Coats and Andy (Linda) Weaver; sister Debbie Farmer; daughter-in-law Karie Coats; granddaughters Jessica (Allie) Marsh, Sierra (Matthew) Thomas, Ruby Galloway, and Emma Galloway; grandsons Jacob (Andrea) Snover, Michael (Andrea) Snover, and Dylan Snover; great-grandchildren Alisyn Miles, Gabriel Snover, Rosalyn Thomas, and Waylon Thomas; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
