Larry Keith Lingerfelt, a beloved member of the community and dedicated law enforcement officer, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, surrounded by family at the home of his daughter. Born on December 23, 1948, Larry lived a life filled with purpose and pride in his career, during which he served the cities of Dallas, Belmont, and Lowell before his retirement.
Larry's contributions to law enforcement were significant, and he approached his role with a deep sense of duty and dedication, earning the respect and admiration of those he served alongside. His involvement in the community extended beyond his career; he was also an active member of Landmark Baptist Church and served in the Lowell Masonic Lodge, further demonstrating his commitment to service and fellowship.
Those who knew Larry appreciated his vibrant personality. He was known for being a big jokester, bringing laughter and joy to many. His love for simple pleasures, such as dining out and working on small engines, reflected a man who cherished life's little moments. He took great pride in his family, considering them his proudest accomplishment.
Larry is survived by his children, Gary Keith Lingerfelt (Chrystal) and Beverly Lingerfelt Gentry (Joe); grandchildren Andrew Bolding, Matthew Bolding, Joseph Gentry, Kayla Moss, Christopher Lingerfelt, and Stephanie Mayberry; great-grandchildren Alanna Bolding, Jaxon Bolding, and Bailey Price; his brother O'Neil Lingerfelt; and sisters Judy Welch and Gail McPeters.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Clyde Lingerfelt and Berniece Rimmer Lingerfelt; his wife of 48 years, Beverly Gail Byrd Lingerfelt; and his siblings A.C., James, Cecil Lingerfelt and Audrey Pullen.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Larry’s life during visitation on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 PM, both held at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home and Cremation in Gastonia, NC with Reverend Carroll Hennessee. Larry will then be interred in Olney Presbyterian Church Cemetery, where family and friends can gather to honor his memory. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Andrew, Matthew, Christopher, Joseph, Cameron and Dylan.
Larry's legacy of laughter, kindness, and unwavering support for his family will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.www.stjude.org
