Larry Herbert ChristyCedar RapidsLarry H. Christy, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, February 25, 2026. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. He will be inurned at Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum.Larry was born in Ames, Iowa, on August 8, 1939. He Graduated from Ames High School in 1957 and from Iowa State University in 1961 with a B.S. Degree in Economics. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1964 in the 10th Finance & Accounting Office and then the Budget Division of Post Comptroller's Office.He moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1965 when he joined The Merchants National Bank of Cedar Rapids as Assistant Comptroller. After a 27-year career at the bank, he retired as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in 1991.He volunteered extensively in the community and enjoyed and took great satisfaction with these charitable activities. He was a member of the Board of Directors of St. Luke's Hospital (1987-1997) and served on the Investment Committee and Audit Committee. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of Waypoint Services for Women, Children and Families (1984-2014) and served as Chair of the Endowment Committee (1995-2002). He was a Trustee of the Linn County Historical Society (History Center) (1987-2007) and was also a member and President of the Board of Directors of the Historical Society.He served as a Director of the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation (2001-2008) and served as Treasurer for several years and was a member of the Executive Committee and Investment, Director Selection, Development and Audit Committees.In the 1970s he was a board member of the Cedar Rapids/Marion Fine Arts Council and served as Fine Arts Council President. He was a member of the Advisory Board of Salvation Army (1967-1979) and served as President during the Construction of the Corps Community Center building on C Avenue NW. He also served on the original board of Dieman-Bennett Dance Theatre of Hemispheres and served as President of that organization for many years.In 1998 he moved to Regency North Condominium and served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Association for most of the years up to 2019.Perhaps his favorite involvement was a member and long-time secretary of the Rotary Club of Cedar Rapids. He joined the club in 1987 and became Secretary in 1992, serving as both Secretary and Treasurer until 2014 under 22 club presidents. He spent 35-40 hours per week working on the affairs of the club and maintaining the large database and financial records of the club of over 350 members. He edited the club's weekly newsletter, Ripples from the Rapids. He also served several years as secretary of the Metro Rotary Council.He was a collector of books and antiques and acquired several distinctive collections over a period of almost sixty years, mostly while travelling in the United States and Europe. His favorite cities for collecting included New York, San Francisco, New Orleans, Savannah and Charleston in the United States and London, Paris, and Rome in Europe.His parents, Laurence Herbert and Alice (Risdal) Christy, a sister, Janet Christy Jensen, a brother-in-law Robert Jensen, and a nephew, Gary K. Greiner, preceded him in death. He is survived by his three nieces, Lori (Jim) Peesker of Arden, NC, and Goderich, Ontario, Karen (Dan) Sedor of Lincoln, NE, and Susan Bjugan of Fairview, NC and their families; along with a number of cousins.Memorial donations in Larry's honor may be made to the Larry H.
