Larry Eugene Harbin

Larry Eugene Harbin, 77, of Winston-Salem, passed away on March 5, 2026. Born in Forsyth County on September 5, 1948, to Walter Russell Harbin and Thelma Burke Harbin, Larry graduated from West Forsyth High School in 1966. He attended Officer Candidate School, was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, and served his country as a Vietnam War veteran in the U.S. Army from 1968 until his honorable discharge in 1974, earning the National Defense Service Medal.

Larry built a long career as an optician, working with The S. Galeski Optical Company, Accent Optical, and National Vision, Inc. A devoted member of Bethesda Moravian Church, he served in several leadership roles there. He found great joy in golf and fly-fishing, and he remained proud of his achievement as a Life Ranking Boy Scout.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 39 years, Dianne Woodruff Harbin, and his parents. Larry is survived by his children, Laura Harbin Stern (Brian) of Raleigh, North Carolina, and John Russell Harbin of Asheville, North Carolina; his grandchildren, Grayson and William Stern; his brother, Garry Harbin (Kathy) of Winston-Salem; and his sister, Linda Hurst (Wayne) of Colorado.
