He was predeceased by: his parents, Carzell Varnell and Granville Varnell; and his sister Glenda. He is survived by: his wife Gwen; and his sons, Michael, Stephen and Paul.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 3rd 2026 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Chattanooga Funeral Home (7414 Old Lee Hwy, Chattanooga, TN 37421). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 3rd 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
