Whitley City, KY
Larry Edwin Loudermilk, 81, of Whitley City, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2026, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.
Larry was born on September 12, 1944, the son of the late Matthew and Bernice (Clark) Stephens. He dedicated much of his life to education, retiring after many years as a mathematics teacher at McCreary Central High School and McCreary County High School. Through patience, discipline, and genuine care for his students, Larry helped shape the lives of countless young people in his community.
A faithful member of the Whitley City Church of God, Larry lived a life grounded in faith, service, and devotion to family. He enjoyed cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats and the Houston Rockets, and he rarely missed an opportunity to relax with a good game show—especially Let’s Make a Deal. In his later years, Larry found great fulfillment in spending time with and supporting his beloved wife, Loraine.
More than anything, Larry’s greatest joy was his family. He took special pride in watching his grandchildren grow, encouraging them and supporting their interests every step of the way. Whether offering guidance, lending a helping hand, or simply being present, he found deep happiness in their achievements and in the time they spent together.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his daughter, Daphne Renee Loze and his sisters, Sue Smith (Ed) and Kathy Rampy.
He is survived by his loving wife, Loraine (Watters) Loudermilk of Whitley City, Kentucky; his son, Bryson Loudermilk and wife Angela of Stearns, Kentucky; his son-in-law, George Loze ; his cherished grandchildren, Noah Loudermilk (Emily), Daniel Loudermilk, and Megan Loudermilk; and his great-grandchild, Judah Loudermilk. He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, and former students who will remember him with deep respect and affection.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the Whitley City Church of God. Burial will follow in the Whitley City Church of God Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Larry will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, respected teacher, and faithful friend whose kindness, encouragement, and quiet strength touched many lives. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
