Whitley City, KY

Larry Edwin Loudermilk, age 81, of Whitley City, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2026, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.

Born on September 12, 1944, in Fayette County, Kentucky, to Matthew and Bernice (Clark) Stephens, Larry spent many years teaching mathematics at McCreary Central High School and McCreary County High School. He cared deeply for his students and worked tirelessly to help them learn and succeed. Many in McCreary County will remember him for the lasting impact he made in the classroom.

A faithful member of the Whitley City Church of God, Larry found great strength in his faith and his love for family. He had a lifelong passion for sports, having played softball and basketball in his youth, and remained an enthusiastic fan of the Kentucky Wildcats, the Houston Rockets, and the McCreary Central Raiders. He was especially known as the biggest Reed Sheppard fan in the world. In recent decades, he could most often be found in the bleachers at gyms and baseball fields, proudly supporting his grandchildren at their games and practices, often joining in the fun himself.

Above all, Larry cherished time with his family. He shared many quiet, happy moments with his wife, Loraine, enjoying meals at local restaurants, watching Hallmark movies, and relaxing together with their favorite game shows. He was also a familiar, welcome presence at the Senior Citizens building, where he visited and laughed with friends. Known for his willingness to help anyone in need, Larry lived with a quiet generosity that touched many lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Daphne Renee Lozé; his sister, Sue Smith (Ed); and his niece, Kathy Rampy.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Loraine (Watters) Loudermilk of Whitley City; his son, Bryson Loudermilk (Angela) of Stearns; his son-in-law, George Lozé; his grandchildren, Noah Loudermilk (Emily), Daniel Loudermilk, and Megan Loudermilk; and his great-grandchild, Judah Loudermilk. He leaves behind many friends, former students, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
