Larry Donald West

Larry Donald West

March 10, 1957 March 10, 2026

West Terre Haute, IN

Larry Donald West, 69, of West Terre Haute, passed away at his home on March 10, 2026. Born on March 10, 1957, in Hammond, Indiana, to Donald and Margaret West, Larry lived a life marked by service, creativity, and deep loyalty to those he loved.

He served his country in the U.S. Army at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and later worked as a painter with Local Union No. 197. In his free time, Larry could often be found fishing or mushroom hunting. A naturally creative and resourceful man, he enjoyed woodworking and “junking,” transforming discarded items into something useful with remarkable skill. A true jack of all trades, he approached every task with quiet competence. On pleasant days, he loved relaxing on the back porch, listening to his favorite oldies, country, and rock music. A devoted son, he cared for his mother daily for many years. He was a longtime member of the VFW, Young Men’s Club, and American Legion, a passionate IU sports fan, and someone who cherished the company of family and friends. Known for his sense of humor and his ability to make others laugh, Larry was above all loyal and caring toward those closest to him.

He is survived by his children, Amber Hamblen (Ethan) and Larry West; his mother, Margaret West; brothers Randy West (Patty), Jim West (Patty), and Bob West (Jeanne); sister Brenda West (Mike); grandchildren Delaney, Weston, Warren, and Wyatt; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Donald Lee West; his brother, David West; and the mother of his children, Donna Tarrh.
