Larry Cuklanz

June 5, 1945 March 10, 2026

Granite Falls, MN

Larry Marvin Cuklanz, known affectionately as “Mr. C” to generations of students, passed away on March 10, 2026, at the age of 80 in Granite Falls, Minnesota.

Born in Spirit Lake, Iowa, and raised in Terril, Iowa, Larry dedicated 58 years to teaching and mentoring young people. Students were drawn to his quirky personality, sharp wit, and encouraging spirit, and he coached golf, basketball, and football with the same passion he brought to the classroom. A veteran of the United States Navy, he served for four years before beginning his long career in education. A gifted athlete, he excelled as a college basketball point guard, renowned for his exceptional ball handling and three-point shooting despite standing under six feet tall. He taught himself countless skills, including how to play the piano and guitar by ear.

Larry cherished his family, his church, singing, golfing, and his beloved sweets—especially M&M’s. His infectious personality, quick sense of humor, and generous heart defined him; he was always ready to help anyone in need without expecting anything in return. He often greeted others with a playful “you betcha” and lovingly referred to his wife Nancy as his “better half.”

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy; daughters Julie (Ian), Stefanie (Jerrod), and Kris (Ben); his cherished granddaughter Maddie; brother Rick (Cindy); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
