Larry Clay Jones
September 28, 1937— March 6, 2026
Sidney, NE
Larry Clay Jones, age 88, of Sidney, Nebraska, passed away on March 6, 2026, at Sidney Regional Medical Center. Born on September 28, 1937, in Chadron, Nebraska, to Henry “Bill” and Mona Jones, Larry grew up working alongside his father in the family’s grocery store, bowling alley, and farm. These early experiences instilled in him a lifelong strong work ethic and resourcefulness. He graduated from Chadron Prep in 1957 and enlisted in the Army National Guard the following year.
On June 3, 1962, Larry married Patricia Brown in Bridgeport, Nebraska. The couple settled in Sidney, where they raised three children. Larry developed a deep passion for aviation, earning his private pilot’s license in 1967 and continuing to fly until 1975. He managed the local Goodyear store before working for Jerry’s Tire and Wrecking Service and later as a machinist at Convert-A-Ball. After Patricia’s passing in 2001, he met his dear friend Edith Christensen in 2004 and retired in 2011 at the age of 73.
In retirement, Larry and Edith enjoyed traveling across the western states to visit family and friends. They cherished time with their grandchildren and were regular attendees at senior dances throughout the region. For the last nine years of his life, Larry resided at Pole Creek Estates in Sidney. A man of many interests, he was an early member and officer of the local Elks Lodge, pursued small entrepreneurial ventures, and took great pride in maintaining an immaculate yard, house, and garden. He found particular joy in growing vegetables and sharing them with family and friends.
Larry is survived by his children, Bradley Jones of Lincoln, Nebraska; Brian and Angela Jones of Black Diamond, Washington; and Beth and Joshua Danielson of Las Vegas, Nevada; his sister, Gwen and Lance Scherbarth of Chadron, Nebraska; grandchildren Kristen and Cody Meredith of Concord, California; Kyle Leisey of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; Emily and Hannah Jones of Black Diamond, Washington; and Aliece, Emma, Isaac, and Ethan Danielson of Las Vegas, Nevada; six great-grandchildren; his dear friend Edith Christensen; and many extended family members and close friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, his parents, his sisters Joyce and Ricky, and his brother Wayne.
