Laraque Louis ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Memorial Funeral Home - Fanwood on Mar. 3, 2026.There are some goodbyes that feel especially heavy, particularly when we are parting with someone whose life touched so many hearts. Today, we honor and celebrate the life of a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend, Laraque Louis, whose love, strength, and unwavering faith touched all who knew him.Laraque Louis was born in Jacmel, Haiti on September 8, 1944. From humble beginnings, he developed the determination and resilience that would define his life. In 1978, driven by love and a desire to provide a better life for his family, he courageously immigrated to the United States. With faith in God and hope in his heart, he built a life rooted in hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance.Laraque took great pride in the many professions he embraced throughout his lifetime. He worked as a movie operator at a Theater in Haiti, a New York City taxi cab driver, an electrician, a truck driver for Anheuser-Busch, and lastly, a bus operator with Avis Car Rental and NJ Transit. Without formal training, he also acted as a plumber, electrician, and landscaper for both himself and others-he truly did it all. His strong work ethic and commitment to excellence culminated in a proud and honorable retirement in 2017 after 20 years at New Jersey Transit. Throughout his life, he carried himself with determination, an optimistic outlook on life, and yes, at times, a bit of stubbornness-but always with integrity and purpose. Anyone who knew him would agree that beneath his strong exterior was a heart of gold. He was generous, dependable, and always willing to lend a helping hand.In 2017, he answered the call of faith, committing his life to Christ and was baptized as a testament to his devotion and spiritual renewal. Shortly after his retirement, Laraque suffered a life-altering accident in 2018 that resulted in lower extremity paralysis. Yet even in the face of unimaginable challenges, his spirit and faith remained unbroken. He refused to allow his circumstances to define him.Above all, Laraque's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband and a proud father to his four children: Olivier, Annabell, Christina, and Sonia. He poured his love and wisdom into them, modeling sacrifice, strength, and love. His legacy continues through his eight beloved grandchildren-Oliver, Ian, Adrian, Owen, Ryan, Morgan, Nora, and Melanie-each of whom brought immeasurable joy to his life. He cherished every moment spent with them, and his eyes would light up at the sound of their voices.Laraque was predeceased by his beloved parents, his brother Larousse, and his sister Leocade. He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved siblings, Livianne, Roosevelt, and Betrand, many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends whose lives were touched by his love. Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. His life was a reflection of steadfast faith, enduring love, and quiet strength. While we mourn the loss of a remarkable man, we celebrate a life well lived-a life of unshakable determination. His legacy will live on in the values he instilled, the love he shared, and the faith he carried through every season of life. May we honor him by living with the same courage, generosity, and faith that he exemplified each day.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
