April 3, 1953— March 5, 2026
Falls Church, VA
Laban Elliott Hershey Sadtler passed away on March 5, 2026. Born on April 3, 1953, in Washington, D.C., to John Beale and Vivian Kathleen Sadtler, he grew up in Falls Church, Virginia, where he attended public schools.
Laban met his wife Bev at Northern Virginia Community College in 1973. After following her to East Tennessee State University, they married on August 26, 1978. Their 47-year marriage in Northern Virginia was filled with love, laughter, and faith as they raised their family. Members of Capital Church for more than 40 years, Laban placed his family’s needs above his own and sacrificed personally to ensure they were cared for. He was a devoted Washington sports fan who faithfully supported the Nationals, Commanders, Capitals, and Wizards.
He founded his own insurance agency under Nationwide Insurance, treating each client like family and taking pride in honest service. He was grateful to pass the business to his son upon retirement, though illness forced an earlier departure than he had hoped, leaving him saddened to lose daily connection with the people he had grown to love.
Throughout his life, Laban’s faith in God remained the foundation of his character. He lived out unconditional love to everyone he met, never encountering a stranger. Even while courageously battling Parkinson’s symptoms, Lyme disease, and kidney disease, he maintained a smile, cracked jokes, and sought to bring joy to those around him. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Bev; his children, Josh (Lyn) Sadtler and Becca (Chris) Bahlo; his four cherished grandchildren, James, Daniel, Jon, and Brielle; his brother Jack; and countless family members and friends whose lives were touched by his kindness.
