Kurt Anderson ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home - Oberlin on Mar. 13, 2026.Kurt Bryan Anderson, 54, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 in Oberlin, KS. He was born May 29, 1971, in Norman, Oklahoma, to Kenneth and Emalee (Tucker) Anderson. He lived a life marked by humor, hard work, and deep love for his family.Kurt grew up in Drumright, Oklahoma, graduating from Drumright High School in 1990. A big presence both on and off the field, he played football as a lineman. Despite he and best friend J.R.'s efforts, the team never captured a win during their senior year, which his brother Kent never let them forget! Beyond athletics, he also shared his musical talents, starring in high school musicals and performing with the vocal group, the Ten Tones. During summer breaks, he deeply enjoyed custom harvesting wheat across many states. He went on to attend Oklahoma State University, where he studied Agricultural Management. Kurt's college years were filled with stories he would later tell with a grin-mischievous escapades that occasionally required late-night calls to his brother Kent for bail money, an encounter with the local fire department after a dorm Christmas tree mysteriously caught fire, and attempts at the possum hunt that became legendary stories over time.Following college, Kurt began his career working with agricultural co-ops throughout Kansas and Oklahoma before eventually planting deep roots in Oberlin, Kansas, where he served as Co-op General Manager for more than 20 years. Through his work he built a respected career in agriculture while becoming a familiar and trusted member of the community. In 2002, Kurt embraced what he called his most important role-becoming a father with the birth of his daughter, Emma Kay. In 2004, he welcomed the arrival of his second daughter, Ellison Kate. Kurt was deeply involved in his girls' lives, so much so he happily became their Girl Scout troop leader over the years. On many overnight trips he was required to stay in separate sleeping quarters being the only male leader, but more than once his daughters quietly slipped away after the others had fallen asleep to be closer to their dad. In moments where extra persuasion was needed to spend time together, the magic words of "Let's go see a man about a dog" convinced them every time. He filled their childhood with endless fun and memories, from a Disneyland vacation to diving with sharks at the Denver Aquarium.Kurt's involvement extended well beyond his family. In Oberlin, you could find him volunteering in many ways-from helping at the local movie theater, to serving as President of the Economic Development Committee, to assembling the Ferris wheel or spinning the Tilt-A-Whirl a little too fast at the county fair. Whether through his career, his daughters' activities, or community events, Kurt was always willing to show up and lend a hand.Later in life, Kurt discovered two new loves that would shape the years that followed-motorcycles and Buzzy Koerperich. What began with time spent riding the open road on his motorcycle "Black Betty," soon grew into a deep partnership-and eventually an upgrade to a Harley. Kurt pushed himself on the road as well as in life, completing the Iron Butt Association 1,000-mile ride in 24 hours and finishing the 2018 Tour of Honor. Many of their own adventures were shared together, like crossing the continental divide, partaking in area poker runs, and surviving a road trip to Gunnison, CO with heat so deadly it melted the kickstand! As their relationship grew, Kurt became a steady and trusted presence in the lives of Buzzy's children: Bailey, Ian, Piper, and Eli. He was the kind of man any of them could call on, always showing up without complaint, and ready to help in all the ways he could. Kurt embraced his final promotion in life as "Papa Kurt" with the same devotion. He delighted in his grandpa role to Beckham, Wesley and Bowen, creating special memories with each of the boys, and leaves a loving legacy for the newest addition Remy. Through it all, Kurt's generosity, humor, and steadfastness left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.He is survived by his daughters, Emma and Ellie; mother, Emalee King; brother, Kent Anderson; life partner, Buzzy Koerperich; her children, Bailey (Adam) Rusk and their children, Beckham, Bowen, and Remy; Ian (Brandi) Koerperich and their son, Wesley; Piper Koerperich; and Eli Koerperich; step-sister, Keri King; nephew, Kendall Anderson; aunt, Lavada King; godparents, Darrell and Judy Wooster; and his beloved fur baby, Delilah. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Anderson; stepfather, Keith King; paternal grandparents, H.O. and Lucile Anderson; maternal grandparents, R.B. and Alice Jay Tucker; and uncle, Doug Tucker.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 18th at 11:00 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Oberlin, KS.
