March 24, 1948— March 11, 2026
Coos Bay, OR
Kristin Osterbaan was born on March 24, 1948, in Murray, Utah, to Charles Ray Long and Jean Elizabeth Keele Long. The third of ten children, she remained a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many callings, including ward chorister and Relief Society teacher, and found great joy singing in the choir.
She married James Lepin after high school, and they had a son, Michael Lepin. She later married Richard Eugene Thornton II, with whom she had a son, Erik Thornton, and a daughter, Jennifer Thornton. On January 1, 1985, she married Ron Osterbaan, who had a son, Leon Osterbaan. Kristin and Ron were sealed in the Portland Temple on June 16, 1990.
For more than thirty years, Kristin lived with her husband Ron in Madras, Oregon, before moving to Coos Bay to be near her daughter and her family. She had a deep love for sewing and spent countless hours in her sewing room creating thoughtful gifts for others. She made burp rags for new mothers, quilts, and crocheted many dishrags, quietly sharing her talents with those around her.
Kristin passed away on March 11, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Jean Long, her sister Bonny Ruff, and her brothers Terry Long and Forrest Long. She is survived by her husband Ronald Lee Osterbaan, her second mother Shirlee Long, her siblings Bruce Long, Charlotte Littlefield Wolsey and husband Kenneth, David Long, Janette Schlarb and husband Reuel, Jeff Long, and Janey Nelson and husband David, her children Michael Lepin and wife April, Erik Thornton, Jennifer Roberts and husband Gordon, and Leon Osterbaan and wife Michelle, along with her many grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
