Kitty Sanchez, age 90, of Hauppauge, New York, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026. She was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and moved with her family to Manhattan at the age of five. While growing up in Manhattan, she completed her high school education and met her future husband, Albert Sanchez.
In her younger years, Kitty was something of a tomboy. On many Sunday mornings, she could be found playing handball with her husband and friends. She also loved playing cards and enjoyed weekly games with friends throughout her life. Kitty was a protective, encouraging, and deeply devoted mother and grandmother, known for her loving nature and gentle sense of humor.
Kitty worked for many years as a bookkeeper for the Singer Sewing Company.
She is survived by her son Albert Sanchez Jr. (Gerri), her daughter Karen Schruhl (Steve), her grandchildren Kristin Sanchez, Alison Cranny (Eric), Jaclyn Heffernan, and Michael Schruhl (Anusheh), her sister Olga Miller, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Sanchez, in 2018.
A funeral Mass will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 1370 Grundy Avenue, Holbrook, NY 11741, on Thursday, March 19, at 11:00 a.m. Burial to immediately follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
