McMinnville, TN
Kirma Rae Hanson Justice passed away on March 13, 2026, in McMinnville, Tennessee, after a long battle with dementia. Born in 1944 in Idaho Falls to Earl J. and Olive Hanson, she was the oldest of six children. Raised in Idaho, Kirma moved with her family to Southern California after graduating from Ricks College. She met her husband, Barry Justice, while working for Hughes Aircraft Company at a church activity. The couple spent the next 45 years raising their family in Fountain Valley, California, where Kirma devoted herself fully to creating a warm and stable home while Barry managed grocery stores and real estate.
Kirma was the loving mother of five children: Greg, Jeffery, Matt, Julie, and Brad. She served as the devoted primary caregiver to her disabled son Jeffery until his passing in 2015. An excellent cook and gracious hostess, she collected and tested new recipes throughout her life, preparing countless Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners for family and friends. Her home was always open, with room at the table for anyone who needed a place. Kirma’s talent for crafting and needlepoint shone brightly during the holidays, and she took great joy in playing games and spending time with her family. She kept everyone organized and well fed during trips to Lake Shasta, Lake Havasu, and Tims Ford Lake, and was fondly remembered as the instigator of many water balloon fights, quietly arming her children and grandchildren with balloons.
A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kirma gave many years of service to the children, youth, and women in her congregation. In 2011, she and Barry retired and moved to McMinnville, Tennessee, where they enjoyed the peace and beauty of the rural countryside.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Barry Justice; her children Greg Justice, Matt Justice, Julie Peterson, and Brad Justice; her five younger siblings Fred Hanson, Rod Hanson, Doug Hanson, Mike Hanson, and JoAnn Winn; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When once asked how she would like to be remembered 50 years from now, Kirma replied simply, “That I love my family. Family is number one.”
