Kirkland Stiers Broeder, Sr., of Rocky Mount, Missouri, passed away on March 9, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on June 30, 1955, in Victoria, Texas, to Otto “Bunny” Broeder, Jr. and Cherlyn Broeder, Kirk graduated from Parkway Central in St. Louis before serving in the United States Navy. He went on to enjoy a long career spanning more than thirty years as a commercial pilot, a profession that allowed him to combine his deep love of aviation with his passion for travel.
On July 31, 1981, Kirk married Kathryn Broeder, the love of his life. Their marriage of more than four decades stood at the heart of a life devoted to family. He is survived by his mother, Cherlyn Broeder; his wife, Kathryn Broeder; his children, Daryn (Heather) Weatherman, Anna (John) Alt, and Kirkland (Meghan) Broeder; his siblings, Otto Peter Broeder III, David Broeder, and Anne Branscrum; his grandchildren, Alex (Maggie) Quinn, Kyle (Meg) and Clayton (Alexis) Weatherman, Kerstyn (Bradley) Lemons, Samantha and Brody Alt, Kirkland III, Maddox, and Malachi Broeder; and his great-grandchildren, Layton Weatherman and Baby Girl Lemons.
Kirk found great joy in flying seaplanes for recreation, exploring wineries, traveling, and, above all, sharing quiet, meaningful moments with the people he cherished. He will be remembered for his steadfast love of family, his adventurous spirit, and the warmth and memories he created throughout his life. His family holds to the hope of seeing him again in the fulfillment of God’s promise of the resurrection.
