Fairfax, VA
Mr. Kinati Taa was born in 1944 in Jato, Wollega, Ethiopia. A man of extraordinary intellect and discipline, he trained as a teacher before serving his nation through the Ethiopian Police College and dedicating sixteen years to service in Eritrea. In Asmara, he met and married his beloved wife, Mulu, in 1962. Together they built a family of five children: Alula, Mesay, Urji, Semret, and Gelila.
In 1995, Mr. Kinati immigrated to the United States, where his creative gifts continued to flourish. A poet, prolific writer, and lover of the arts, he published a poetry collection in 2018 entitled “Matters of Concern and Legacy of Memories,” with several of his works recognized as “Best Poem of the Year.” He spoke four languages fluently—Afaan Oromo, English, Tigrigna, and Amharic—reflecting the remarkable depth of his mind and character.
His life was one of service, resilience, and deep devotion to his family and community. He leaves behind his beloved wife Mulu, his five children, his four grandchildren Eleni Mulatu, Kidus Mulatu, Sinsine Kinati, and Samuel Kinati, his sister Ms. Kebebush, and his brothers Professor Tesema, Mr. Getachew, Mulugeta, Asefa, Desalegne, and Baro. He was loved beyond measure and will be missed beyond words.
