Kevin Brown ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery - Gadsden on Feb. 26, 2026.Kevin Charles Brown, 74, of Reece City passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family on February 24, 2026. He was born on September 16, 1951, to Ernest (Jack) and Elizabeth (Betty) Brown. He attended St. James Catholic School and graduated from Emma Sansom High School in 1969. He went on to earn degrees from Jacksonville State University, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and the University of Alabama. Kevin began his teaching career at Hokes Bluff Elementary School, where he taught P.E., then transferred to Hokes Bluff Middle School as a PE teacher and assistant principal. Finally, he retired as the principal at Whitesboro Elementary School.Left to remember his love and kindness are his wife of 52 years, Cathy Countryman Brown; his daughters, Kasey (Bubba) Roberts and Emily (Kyle) Battles; his grandchildren, Reese Battles, Madelyn Roberts, Reed Battles, Baylee Roberts, and Jack Roberts; his sister Patricia (David) Herrod, and brother Terry (Dollie) Brown. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jeff Brown.Known as Paw Paw by so many, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, and teacher. His love for the Lord was evident in his actions and words. Kevin touched the lives of so many people through his giving heart and kind soul. We were all blessed to have known him.Visitation will be held at St. James Catholic Church on Friday, March 6th, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Following that will be a memorial mass at 2:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Crestwood Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society and Catholic Center of Concern.Special thanks to Father Jose Chacko and our St. James Catholic Church family, Dr. Maury Minton, Dr. James Markert and team, Dr. Lewis Nabors, all the Neuro Intensive Care team at UAB, Centerwell, Gentiva, Nakita Kerksey, Renithia Cleveland, and Norva Wood.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
