Kent Lee Houghton, 71, of Salisbury, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Novant Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 20, 1955, in Iredell County to the late Henry and Ovaleen Houghton, Kent worked for 29 years at Hoechst Celanese/KOSA, where he formed many lasting friendships. He later worked as a truck driver and medical transport driver. A longtime member of First Baptist Church in Salisbury, he found deep fulfillment serving with the Access Ministry. He also devoted many years to coaching track and cross-country at West Rowan High School.
Kent’s passion for running was matched only by his unwavering dedication to his family. He loved his children and grandchildren deeply and took great pride in each of them. Whether cheering from the sidelines at a ballgame or track meet, attending a dance recital, or supporting them at school events, he rarely missed an opportunity to be present for the moments that mattered most.
In addition to his parents, Kent was preceded in death by his brother, Alan Houghton.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Houghton; son, Joshua Houghton (Stephanie); daughters, Callie Houghton Miller (Brandon), Sydney Houghton, and Onnah Houghton (George); grandchildren, Maddox, Paisley, Emma, Kenley, Hudson, Jack, Weston, and Sadie; and brothers, Steve Houghton and Billy Houghton.
