Kenneth Rivers, Sr.

Kenneth Rivers, Sr.

Starkville, MS

Kenneth Rivers, Sr., age 89, of Starkville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Known as Buddy to his friends, he lived a life defined by hard work, quiet strength, and a deep love for his family and the land he tended. Born on September 1, 1936, in Arcola, Mississippi, to Howard and Lillian Rivers, Kenneth proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before building a respected career at Mississippi State University, where he served as Manager of Dining Services for 30 years.

In retirement, he embraced the outdoors he cherished, finding joy in hunting, fishing, and caring for his horse farm. He took great pride in his meticulously kept lawn and spent many hours in his workshop, patiently repairing whatever needed fixing. Though he was not the biggest man in the room, Kenneth possessed the biggest heart and spirit. He loved his family deeply and fiercely, showing that devotion through every quiet act of care and guidance he offered throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Melony Rivers; his parents, Howard and Lillian Rivers; and many of his siblings.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret Thompson Rivers; his son, Kenneth Rivers, Jr. (Debbie) of Maben, Mississippi, along with her sons Toby Brigham and Wayne Monts; and his daughter, Carey Rivers Miller (Gary) of Mount Washington, Kentucky. He was a proud Pawpaw to Madison Withers, Garrison Miller, and Hudson Miller. His legacy lives on in the family he loved so dearly, the values he instilled, and the countless memories made outdoors and in the home he built. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
