Kenneth R Jenkins

November 14, 1936 March 12, 2026

Farmington Hills, MI

Kenneth Jenkins of Farmington Hills passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glasgow, Scotland on November 14, 1936, to Robert and Georgina (Green) Jenkins, Ken grew up on Deans Avenue in Cambuslang with his beloved older sister Mary, who cared for him deeply. In 1952, he moved with his parents to Detroit, Michigan, where he formed lifelong friendships with Dick Varney, Jerry Burt, and Larry Berarducci. Together with their wives, these friends raised their families and supported one another for decades. In later years, Ken also cherished his weekly breakfast gatherings with Dietrich Jones, Chuck Kissaw, and Steve Smith.

Ken earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Lawrence Technological University. He met the love of his life, Joann, at a Highland Park School of Nursing dance. Though she initially kicked him out for causing a ruckus, his persistence led to a canoe ride date on Belle Isle, and they married in 1961. They shared 64 beautiful years together. In 1968, they settled in Farmington, where they raised their children, Douglas and Karen, and became active members of the community. Ken was deeply dedicated to both his career and his family, and he took great pride in both.

After retirement, Ken and Joann enjoyed traveling together, visiting Scotland, Australia, Germany, Alaska, Yellowstone, and Yosemite, among other places, and frequently returning to their favorite destination, Laguna Beach, California. His six grandchildren brought him immense joy; he cherished sleepovers, school pickups, bagel treats, and cheering them on at sporting events despite his own lack of interest in sports. Ken was known for his enormous heart, generosity, and loyalty. A skilled engineer who could fix or build anything, he shared his wisdom freely and maintained close relationships with his sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews near and far.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Joann Jenkins; his children Douglas (Dawn) Jenkins and Karen (Rick) Pifer; and his cherished grandchildren Kaitlyn, Conor, Ian, Hannah, Liam, and Richard. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Georgina Jenkins, and his adored sister, Mary Darroch.
