Kenneth M. Bates Sr.

Kenneth M. Bates, Sr. of Mahopac, New York, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on November 4, 1935, in Armonk, New York, he was the son of the late Henry and Agnes (née Useted) Bates. On March 28, 1953, he married the love of his life, Edith DeRonda, in Hawthorne, New York. Together they built a life and raised nine children.

A longtime member of Operating Engineers Local 137, Ken found joy in country music, playing guitar and singing. He also loved camping, woodworking, and, above all, spending time with his family.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Edith; daughters Roseanna Bates, Nancy Bates, and Kimberly Matias (Anthony); sons Jonathan (Jessica), Patrick (Anita), and Larry (Kris); daughters-in-law Janet Bates and Charlotte Bates; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his children Kenneth Jr., Daniel, and Joanne, and by his grandchildren Jeannie Marie and Ashley.

Ken will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished every moment spent with those he loved.
