Kenneth Leroy Loyd Jr.
Norman, OK
Kenneth Leroy Loyd Jr. and Carolyn Ruth Loyd passed away within hours of each other on March 6, 2026, in Norman, Oklahoma. Ken was 78 and Carol was 76. Their lives were defined by a deep devotion to one another, to their family, to their faith, and to a lifetime of service.
Kenneth was born December 8, 1948, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and graduated from Norman High School. Carolyn was born January 11, 1951, in Norman, Oklahoma, and graduated from Noble High School. Their love story began at the church of Carol’s grandfather, Rev. Thomas Lawton Rogers, where they met as young people. They married on December 17, 1968, and shared a remarkable 57-year marriage built on faith, partnership, and unwavering love.
Following high school, Ken honorably served 12 years in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of Electrician’s Mate First Class. After his service, he returned to Norman with his family and built a respected career as a skilled electrician, working for the University of Oklahoma, the United States Postal Training Center, RK Black, and Standley Systems. Carol devoted much of her life to caring for her family as a homemaker and later worked as a cook at several fraternities at the University of Oklahoma, where her warmth and home-cooked meals left a lasting impression on many students.
Faith was central to Ken and Carol’s lives. For decades they attended Classen Boulevard/Lakeside Church, where Ken served on the Pastor’s Council, as Sunday School Superintendent, and as a teacher. In recent years they found fellowship at Crosspointe Church. Ken was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, camping, and working on projects, always happiest when sharing those moments with his family. Carol was a passionate sports fan who brought excitement and laughter to family gatherings cheering for the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Pittsburgh Steelers.
They are survived by their sons, Kenneth Bryan Loyd of Norman and Randall Len Loyd of Moore; grandchildren Nathan and Taylor Loyd of Wilmington, North Carolina, Darian and Faith of Yukon, Oklahoma, Lawton and Amber Loyd of Hawaii, Megan and Connor Knight of San Diego, California, and Liam Loyd of Norman; as well as Henry and Nancy Loyd of Norman, David and Janet Cloakey of Oklahoma City, and Timothy Loyd of Oklahoma City. Ken and Carol are remembered as devoted spouses, loving parents and grandparents, faithful friends, and respected members of their community whose kindness, resilience, faith, and service left a lasting legacy.
