Lancaster, PA

Kenneth Hicks Culton, 76, of Lancaster, passed away on March 14, 2026, at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health. Born in Winchester, KY, he was the son of the late Thomas and Hazel (Hicks) Culton.

A graduate of Hempfield High School he continued his education at Alvernia College. He spent much of his career as a registered nurse with the PA Department of Health.

His role as a paramedic and the connections he made during his early days of nursing were the happiest and most exciting times of his life. He went on to use his skills to assist in Rwanda with the organization Americares, the mental and physical health of everyone who spent time at Clearpool Education Center in New York State, and finally the conferences, people he met and places he went during his time with the PA Dept of Health, specifically focusing on communicable diseases such as HIV and TB. Everywhere he went he made a new family.

In his spare time he studied politics and public health. He was knowledgeable in so many things, from rebuilding a car engine to rebuilding a house from the 1800s. He loved traveling and sitting down for a beer and a long conversation.

Ken survived by his children Daniel Culton (husband of Alicia), Annie Ebersole (wife of Andy) and David Culton (husband of Salena). Also surviving are grandchildren, Easton, Hannah, Jolene, Dean and Stacy, and his sister Candace Culton. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Thomas Culton.
