Kenneth Francis Tischner
June 30, 1946— March 9, 2026
Cinnaminson, NJ
Kenneth Francis Tischner, a lifelong resident of Cinnaminson, New Jersey, passed away on March 9, 2026, at the age of 79. Born in Camden to the late Frank and Marie Tischner, he was the beloved husband of Lynne (née Ferguson) Miller for 27 years. He was the loving father of Kimberly Tischner Miller (Mark) and Brian Tischner (Kristen), and the devoted stepfather of Kate Miller Brown (Andrew) and Christopher Miller (Sarah Hoyo). Ken was a cherished grandfather to Melanie, Mason, and Jocelyn Tischner; Tricia, Kiley, Dominic, Ethan, and Estela Miller; and Julia and Charlotte Brown, as well as Elena Agis.
Ken spent much of his life working alongside his family in the painting business. He owned and operated Tischner Painting with his father and later with his son, beginning his career as a teenager and continuing the family trade for decades. A proud Vietnam War veteran, he served in the United States Army and was awarded the Purple Heart.
Outside of work, Ken pursued a lifelong passion for birds and birdwatching. He earned his master’s degree in Ornithology and was later awarded an honorary doctorate from Cornell University. Known as one of the top birders in New Jersey, he traveled extensively with his wife Lynne, observing species across the globe. He saw every nesting bird species in the United States—more than 700 in total—and documented nearly 4,000 species worldwide. His enthusiasm and expertise earned him widespread respect in the birding community.
Ken’s curious mind led to many other pursuits. A lifelong collector of coins, cards, and stamps, he shared these interests with friends and family. A talented athlete, he ran track, played and coached baseball, and once tried out for the Phillies. Whatever he set his mind to, he approached with dedication and enthusiasm, remaining a positive influence on those around him. Above all, Ken was a happy man who truly loved life and the adventures it brought. He is survived by his brother Steven Tischner, sisters Jeanne Walters, Linda Marshall, and Nancy Frett, along with many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him greatly.
