Passed March 8, 2026
Pembroke, GA
Kenneth Craig “Big Chicken” Lanier, 68, and Rhonda Frost Lanier, 64, of Pembroke, Georgia, passed away together on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at their home.
They are survived by their son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Heather Lanier, and their beloved grandsons, Trent Lanier (Kylee Saxon) and Trevor Lanier. Craig and Rhonda were known as Papa and Nanny not only to their own grandsons but also to countless friends and teammates of Trent and Trevor. Rhonda’s sister, Christy Frost, who was like a sister to Craig, will also miss them dearly, as will Craig’s siblings: Glenda Lanier Smith (William), Kathy Lanier Calahan, Hugh Grady Lanier, Jr., and Angela Lanier McCook (Tom), along with sister-in-law Bobbie Frost and many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, Craig and Rhonda would have celebrated 49 years of marriage this October. Described as best friends and the perfect example of what marriage should look like, they shared a deep bond and often said they would not have wanted to live in this world without the other. Both born-again Christians, their lives centered on family, especially their son and grandsons. An avid outdoorsman and member of the Ivanhoe Hunting Club, Craig taught his grandsons to hunt and fish. He retired from the Georgia Ports Authority after 40 years as an STS Crane Operator, during which he trained 75 crane operators. Rhonda lovingly doted on her grandsons, becoming a full-time Nanny when they were born. She cherished cooking for them and watching movies together. Together, Craig and Rhonda were their grandsons’ biggest cheerleaders, traveling across the country to support them in baseball and football. Rhonda was remembered as the perfect wife, mother, Nanny, and mother-in-law.
They were preceded in death by Craig’s parents, Hugh Grady Lanier, Sr. and Faye Priester Lanier, and Rhonda’s parents, Joe Julian Frost and Betty Jean Parker Frost, as well as her sister Robin Edwards and brothers Joe Frost and Wendell Frost.
