Kenneth Uhler ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc. on Mar. 10, 2026.Kenneth Allen Uhler, Sr., a Dutchess County resident since 1972 and formerly of Yonkers, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 85.Son of the late Robert M. and Jessie B. (Iversen) Uhler, he was born on March 30, 1940 in Yonkers. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1958, where he and his group of friends sang in perfect harmony.In 1962, Ken enlisted in the US Army, serving as a track vehicle mechanic while stationed in Germany. During that time, he owned a Volkswagen Beetle, but still missed his '57 Chevy back home. He was honorably discharged from active service in 1964 and continued as a Reservist until 1968.He was a car guy from his early childhood until his passing, and considered driving to be one of the loves of his life. Throughout the 1970s, he raced late model stock cars at Orange County Speedway. He especially loved classic cars and street rods, and avidly followed NASCAR.His passion for cars led him to car modeling, creating scale versions of classic cars to an artistic level with precision and authentic details. He was a member of the Town of Newburgh Model Car Club for many years, and attended various conventions across the U.S., winning awards for both individual projects and collaborations with his club brothers, some of which have also been published. Notable among these is the Chevelle Project, which was presented to The International Model Car Builders' Museum in Salt Lake City, UT in 2007 and recently acquired by The Museum of Automotive Speed in Lincoln, NE, and will be celebrated with a permanent exhibit in July of this year. He was well known and highly regarded in the nationwide hobby community.Ken worked for Leprechaun Lines in Newburgh as a motor coach operator. His bus passengers included school and military groups, as well as making regular charters to Atlantic City. He made friends and acquaintances wherever he went and was satisfied to know he brought people safely to their destinations. He retired in 2012.More than anything else, Ken cherished his family and was a beloved father and grandfather. Survivors include his son, Kenneth Uhler, Jr. of Lincoln, CA; his daughter, Karen Uhler (Mike) of Manassas Park, VA; his daughter, Lauren Uhler of Beacon; his grandchildren: Joshua, Hana, and Everett; his sister, Lily Leto & her husband Robert; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.In addition to his parents, Ken was predeceased by siblings Roberta Uhler, Robert L. Uhler, and Lyla Fox, and his grandson, Nickolas Ryan Uhler.Calling hours will be held from 2:00pm to 5:00pm on Sunday, March 15 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. The US Army will conduct Military Honors at 5:00pm immediately following the visitation.
