Kay Elaine Stewart, 78, of State Center, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026 at Harmony in Marshalltown and under the care of the Iowa River Hospice Home.

Funeral services for Kay will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 19, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later time. Kay Elaine Hickman was born on Christmas day, December 25, 1947 in Marshalltown to Theodore and Marian (Wills) Hickman. Kay graduated from West Marshall High School in 1966. On February 20, 1971, Kay was united in marriage to James Stewart in Springfield, Missouri. Kay had worked various jobs- she was a dispatcher for the Marshalltown Police Department, worked at Donnelley Marketing in Nevada, Marshalltown Instruments, Re/Max Precision and cleaned the State Center Library. Kay was a member of the Lamoille Congregational Church. She was a Deaconess for a time and also taught vacation bible school. She enjoyed walking and reading. Kay was also an avid fan of Michael Bolton and Kenny G.

Kay is survived by her husband of 55 years- James. Children: Patrick Stewart of Marshalltown and Kristin Stewart of Marshalltown. Step-children: Angie Stewart and Valerie Stewart of Des Moines. She is also survived by three step-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren and her siblings: Ken (Kris) Hickman of Waukee, David (Yvonne) Hickman of Nevada and Tim (Lori) Hickman of Watseka, Illinois, along with her grand-cats: Acim and Athena.

Kay is preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Marian; step-children: Melanie Stewart and Jimmy Stewart and in-laws: Jessie and Beulah Stewart.
