June 4, 1930— February 2, 2026
Spring City, PA
Kathryn R. “Kiki” (Mattis) (Hoffman) Bowen, age 95, of Spring City, Pennsylvania, passed away on February 2, 2026 at her home. She was the wife of the late Frederick A. Bowen, Jr. and the late James W. Hoffman.
Born on June 4, 1930 in Spring City, she was the daughter of the late A. Milton Mattis and Jane Lydia (Yeager) Mattis. A 1948 graduate of Spring City High School, Kiki went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education from West Chester State Teachers College in 1952. She taught first grade at Fourth Avenue Royersford Elementary School from 1952 until her retirement in 1986.
A longtime member of the First United Church of Christ in Spring City, Kiki spent many happy summers at her cabin in Waretown, New Jersey, where she cherished the Barnegat Lighthouse she affectionately called “Barney.” She found joy in the laughter and curiosity of children, in crafts, and above all in reading.
Although she had no siblings or children of her own, Kiki shared a close bond with her late cousins Sara Louise “Sara Lou” Robinson and Margaret “Peggy” Schwenk and their extended family. She was lovingly embraced as “stepmom” by Fred Bowen’s children: Frederick A. Bowen III and his wife Ellen, Thomas G. Bowen and his partner Barbara Walters, Christine Winters and her husband Jeff, Suzanne Leightcap and her husband Bill, and Kathleen Bowen and her partner Albert Hyde.
