She was born January 26, 1940 in Prairie Grove, Arkansas, the daughter of Guy Arthur and Fannie Kathren (Evans) Shirk.After graduating from Escalon High School in California, she married Jerry Freitas on January 4, 1959 in California. Together for 67 years, they raised 2 sons and built a life filled with love and laughter. Ima worked for a time at the local cannery in Modesto, California to provide extra money for vacations. Following this she worked 10 years at Pacific Bell as a telephone information operator. During this time Jerry & Imogene (JIF) Trucking was started and she functioned as the business and financial manager for both the trucking business and their 6 acre walnut orchard where she helped with irrigation and mowing. Ima accepted Jesus into her heart at 4 years of age and was an active church member all her life. Ima always had a deep love of gardening and was an amazing cook. She had a warm smile and valued her friendships from high school and church.She was preceded in death by her parents.Imogene is survived by her husband Jerry Freitas of Fayetteville, AR; two sons, Kevin Freitas and wife Laneda of Bandon, OR and Daniel Freitas and wife Rebekah of Fayetteville, AR; five grandchildren, Casey Freitas, Melissa Freitas, Shelby Freitas, Kaitlin Freitas, and Joshua Freitas and wife Audrey; six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 11, 2026, 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM prior to the service.Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 11th, 2026, at Luginbuel Chapel in Prairie Grove. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery near Farmington, AR. No graveside service will be held at the cemetery.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
