November 27, 1965— March 5, 2026
Hammond, LA
Kathleen Sziber, known affectionately as Kate, passed away on March 5, 2026, at the age of 60. A devoted cat-mom to Bleu, Luna, and her 24-year-old cat Jolie, Kate began each day connecting with her friends on Twitter, where she shared laughter and engaged in thoughtful conversations about current events, social issues, and politics. She took great pride in her Psychology degree from Southeastern Louisiana University and found deep fulfillment in her years of service as a case manager, helping others in need.
Kate cherished her large, close-knit family, which included her parents, grandparents, and siblings. She was especially beloved by her 16 nieces and nephews, who lovingly called her “Aunt Cake,” and by her young neighbor, who knew her as “Sweetie.” Her childhood was filled with warmth and adventure, from Sunday family lunches to vacations spent between Grand Isle, the mountains, and many places in between. She grew up exploring the open fields and woods surrounding her home, memories that remained close to her heart.
Those who knew Kate will remember her as a loving woman with a heart of gold. She is survived by her sister, Anne Sziber Bergeron, and her brothers, John Sziber Jr., Michael Sziber, and Timothy Sziber. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Geraldine Sziber; her grandparents, Frank and Katie Sziber and Lovance and Ophelia Fontenot; and her brother, Matthew “Pat” Sziber. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
