Karl Mitchell Killgore of Hurst, Texas, passed away on March 12, 2026, in Fort Worth, Texas, after a ten-year battle with cancer. A proud Vietnam veteran, Karl will be remembered as a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, friend, and neighbor to all who knew him.
Born on September 2, 1949, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Charles L. and Mabel Killgore, Karl served in the U.S. Army from August 1969 to April 1971 with the 25th Infantry Division, “Tropic Lightning.” He rose to the rank of Specialist 5, earned several commendations and medals, and received an honorable discharge in August 1975. He worked as a steel fabricator and shop manager at Fort Worth Tower Company until his retirement, later returning to work for Falcon Steel America in Haltom City.
On March 18, 1998, Karl married the love of his life, Cheryl (Sherry). Together they shared a farm in Kennedale, Texas, where they grew hay for their animals. Karl enjoyed hunting with his brothers, gardening with Sherry, and woodworking. He had a deep love for animals and cherished his cats Virgil and Wendy, his dogs Jack, “B,” and Suki, as well as the many strays that found their way to the property.
Karl is survived by his wife, Cheryl Killgore; his sister, Laverne Heath (Ed) of Fountain, North Carolina; his brother, Howard Killgore (Linda) of Alvarado, Texas; ten nieces and nephews; nineteen great-nieces and nephews; and six great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mabel Killgore of Kennedale, Texas, and his brothers, Edgar L. Killgore (Mary Lou) of Lewisburg, Tennessee, Clyde N. Killgore (Nancy Jane), and Dr. Gerald D. Killgore (Nancy B.) of Rosebud, Texas.
