Through many tears the family of Karl L. “Buddy” Bernhardt Jr. announce his passing March 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born Nov. 17, 1950, in Lancaster, he was the only son of Karl L. and Eileen (Connelly) Bernhardt.
Karl dedicated over 30 years of his life to High Steel Corp. where he also volunteered with their first responders’ group to assist his colleagues in their time of need. His professional legacy stands as a testament to his unwavering work ethic and dedication to providing for his family. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. His heart blossomed while fishing with his beloved grandchildren, where they created cherished memories that will resonate through generations. Karl reveled in the great outdoors, always seeking peace and solace in nature’s embrace. Whether he was engrossed in his latest woodworking project or exploring new crafts, Karl’s creativity and craftsmanship were admired by all. He enjoyed watching the History Channel and boxing in his leisure.
Karl is survived by his children, Melana Cruz, wife of Don, and Erich Bernhardt, husband of Jessica, all of Lancaster; grandchildren, Harley, Brent, Sean, Aubrey, Brandon, and Madilynn; a great granddaughter McKenzie; and sisters, Darla Miller and Yvonna Black (Frank). He was preceded in passing by his parents and a sister, Georgia Ray Bernhardt.
A Memorial Service honoring Karl will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA 17584, beginning at 10 AM. The family will receive guests from 9 AM until the service.
