Karen Sue Cox, a cherished educator and beloved family matriarch, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, in New Albany, Indiana. Born on January 31, 1943, in Huntington, West Virginia, Karen lived a life filled with compassion, joy, and unwavering dedication to those she loved.

After graduating from Pennsbury High School in Yardley, PA, Karen pursued higher education at Union College, where she earned her bachelor's degree in education. Her passion for teaching blossomed early, leading her to a gratifying career with Kenton County Schools. There, she found true fulfillment in nurturing and inspiring her students, creating a lasting impact on many young lives.

Karen’s warm spirit was unmistakable—she possessed the extraordinary ability to fill a room with joy and laughter. Her humor and honest nature touched all who knew her. She was a loyal wife, devoted mother, and a loving grandmother. Karen took immense pride and delight in her family, finding her greatest happiness in watching them grow and succeed.

Outside of her professional life, Karen’s days were enriched with music, puzzles, playing games such as Rummikub, and the irreplaceable company of friends and family. Traveling and sharing countless moments with her grandchildren held a special place in her heart; spending time with them was her favorite pastime and a true source of endless joy.

Karen is survived by her daughter, Margo (Rob) Rippy; her son, Corey (Heather) Slais; and her brother, Roger (Ellen) Watson. Her grandchildren—Jessica Slais, Parker Slais, Kyle Rippy, Brantly Rippy, and Kelby Rippyn, and many nieces and nephews—to carry on her legacy of love and laughter. She leaves behind a family that was and always will be her pride and joy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Walton Cox; her father, Lawrence Watson; her mother, Anna Louise Watson; and her sister, Patricia Giba.

Karen Sue Cox’s life was a testament to kindness, laughter, and devotion. Those who had the privilege of knowing her will forever cherish the warmth she brought into their lives. Though she is no longer with us, her loving spirit and the memories she created will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who loved her.

A private family service will take place at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, and Receptions, Southern Indiana Chapel, with a celebration of Karen's life to be held on May 9th, 2026, please contact the family for further information.
