September 12, 1938— February 25, 2026
Venice, FL
Karen L. Schoenthaler, 87, of Venice, Florida, died peacefully on February 25, 2026. Born in Maquoketa, Iowa, she later lived in Bettendorf before moving to Venice in 2006 with her husband, David, following his retirement. Throughout her years in Iowa, Karen pursued a varied and active career as a piano teacher, church organist, office manager, and realtor.
A lifelong lover of music, Karen began playing the piano at the age of five. She later took up the cello and shared her talent with the North Port Symphony, the Sarasota Pops, and a close ensemble of friends who gathered to play on Wednesday afternoons. In addition to her musical gifts, she was a talented oil portrait artist. In her later years, she developed a passion for dressing antique dolls and became an active member of the Venice Doll Club. Karen and David shared a joyful, fun-filled marriage of 44 years. Together they were longtime members of Venice Presbyterian Church, where she served faithfully in the Stephen Ministry.
She is survived by her beloved husband, David; her children from a prior marriage, Carmen (Tom) Domek, Cynthia Sagers, Charles (Stephanie) Sagers, and Christopher Sagers (Annie Wu); and several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Curtis Sagers.
