Karen Francine Collins (Brooks), a vibrant soul and cherished matriarch, passed away on February 21, 2026, in Portland, Oregon, at the age of 74. Born on June 7, 1951, in Norfolk, Virginia, Karen touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was the embodiment of love, laughter, and resilience, leaving an indelible mark on her family and friends throughout her life.

Karen was a passionate and caring woman, always the life of the party with her quick wit and infectious laughter. Her personality shone brightly, as she was not just confident and strong-willed, but also nurturing and supportive, fostering an atmosphere of warmth and openness wherever she went. With an unmatched zeal for life, Karen embraced each moment, finding joy in simple pleasures like going out to jazz clubs and enjoying drinks with her girl friends.

She played an invaluable role in the lives of her nieces and nephews, generously sharing her wisdom and life lessons. From cooking delectable meals to offering advice on matters of the heart, she was a guiding light and confidant. Her ability to connect deeply with those around her made her a beloved figure within the family, as she welcomed friends into her home and heart, making them feel like family.

Karen's strong sense of commitment extended beyond her immediate family, as she invited anyone in need into her life, enriching their worlds with her nurturing spirit. Whether offering a listening ear or providing honest advice—often calling a spade a spade—she was always there for those she loved.

Among her proudest accomplishments was the fulfillment of her dream of homeownership. Purchasing and paying off both her and her husband's first and second homes brought her immense pride, reflecting her determination and hard work.

Karen is survived by her loving cousin, Yvette Pegues, and dear friends Joyce Smith McGee, Janet Lee Rodgers, and Kim Carver. Her legacy lives on through her cherished family: nephews Maurice Golden Sr. and Ellis Hendrix; nieces LuCree and Angee Pegues; and her great-nieces and great-nephews: Ronald Sear, Ellis Sear, Nicole Sear, Marquis Golden, LaQuoya Tyler, Maurisa Golden, LaQrisha Tyler, and Maurice Golden Jr., Makya Golden.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Lee Grover Collins; her father, Carl E. Clark; her mother, Florence Clark; and her brother, Karl Clark. Their memories and love will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

A graveside service will be held on March 23 2026, at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon, beginning at 2:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor and remember a truly remarkable woman whose spirit will live on in the lives she touched.
