Karen "KK" Bonifer, of Louisville, passed away on February 26, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on August 26, 1961, in Louisville, KY, Karen was a joy to those who knew her. She was a fun-loving individual with a heart of gold; known for her caring nature and the love she had for her family and animals.

A proud graduate of Seneca High School, Class of 1979, Karen’s life was filled with adventures, notably at Barren River Lake, where she created 45 years of treasured memories. She was an avid sports fan, particularly of the University of Louisville, and enjoyed playing basketball, spending time by her pool, cooking, and entertaining friends and family.

Karen shared a beautiful life and a deep partnership with her husband, Philip Bonifer, with whom she celebrated 43 wonderful years of marriage. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Rebecca (Bobby) Herwig, and a proud grandmother to her beloved granddaughter, Piper Valentine. Karen’s family extended to include her siblings: Alfred (Ann) Vest, III, Cindy Smith, Ray (Greg) O'Brien, Dean (Robert) O'Brien, and James (April) O'Brien, Paul (Cindy) O'Brien, brother-in-law, Paul (Teresa) Bonifer. Her nephew, Jesse (Brittany) Brown, and a host of extended family and friends.

She was predeceased by her father, Alfred Vest, Jr., her father James O'Brien, and her mother Sylvia O'Brien, along with her in-laws, John and Cathy Bonifer, and her grandson, Hunter Herwig.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Karen’s life during the visitation on March 11, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home in East Louisville. A Mass will be held in her honor the following day, March 12, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, followed by a graveside service at Calvary Cemetery at 12:30 PM.

Karen Bonifer's legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends, reminding us all of the joy she brought into our lives and the love she shared with everyone around her.
