"June" Barney (nee Kadell), 90, of Highland, IL, passed away peacefully March 16, 2026, at Cedarhurst of Highland.June was born on November 23, 1935, and raised in Lebanon, IL, the daughter of Julius W. and Esther L. (nee Jokisch) Kadell. Upon graduating from Lebanon High School, she began her career as a typist at Laclede Steel Co. in St. Louis, MO. On August 25, 1956, she married James C. Giger of Highland, IL. They briefly lived in St. Anne, IL, before moving back to Highland where they welcomed their 3 children. James passed away on December 24, 1963.On November 28, 1968, she married Bobby F. Kamphoeffner in Highland, IL (deceased June 23, 1990). On December 2, 1995, she married Robert O. Barney in Nashville, TN (deceased May 8, 2016).June began working at Highland Community Schools in 1968 in various positions. After 27 years, she retired in 1995.After her retirement, June enjoyed working on her family genealogy, camping and traveling and had visited all 50 states. She cherished spending time with each of her 3 children and 3 grandchildren. She also loved animals and had many fond memories of her pets, particularly Buttons, a dachshund, and her cat, Latte. June was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ.June is survived by her Children – Keith (Eileen) Giger, David (Caroline) Giger and Janis (Ron) Kleck; Grandchildren – Alex (Sarah) Giger, Matthew (Morgan) Giger and Lena Giger; Caregiver and Friend – Janet Stanley.She preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Kenneth, and her three loving husbands: James Giger, Bobby Kamphoeffner, and Robert Barney, and her loving cat, Latte.Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL, and will be followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM at the church with Rev. William E. Kapp, officiating.Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL.The family asks that memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to be made to the Evangelical United Church of Christ or the Highland Animal Shelter.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
