She worked as a Research Assistant at the U of R Medical School where she met her husband of 32 years, Dr. Leo F. Stornelli. They settled in Irondequoit to raise their 5 children – Mark, Jan, Margot, Paul, and David – before divorcing after 32 years of marriage but always remained good friends. Her role at the U of R working with carbon isotopes was part of the Atomic Energy Commission that grew out of the Manhattan Project. In the 60s, they were actively involved in the Civil Rights Movement hosting the first black student, Marvin, to attend Irondequoit High School, a loving addition to our extended family and participated in Vietnam Anti-War Protests. A great cook, she hosted many parties for extended family and close friends. She was honored with the Teacher of the Year Award during her career. She enjoyed sewing and weaving, creating clothing and household heirlooms. She traveled the world to Europe, Israel, Central America and every corner of the USA and Canada on numerous Road Scholar adventures. In retirement, she spent over a decade caring for her Aunt Edith in San Francisco before her death at 102 years old. During the pandemic, she joined local volunteers sewing masks.
