Prior to her birth, her parents were forcibly taken from Korea to serve as laborers in Japan. In the final weeks of World War Two, June and her family fled Japan and returned to Korea. She lived in a village outside Seoul as a farm worker with her parents and brothers until the North Korean army approached. After the Korean conflict ended, they returned to their village where her family was able to recover some assets. Her four brothers were provided with funds for college educations. As a woman her family did not consider her for further education, and expected her to marry a family ally. June decided to pave her own path and left her home. She remained in contact with her family, and began a 36 year US Civil Service career. Her first position was working in Seoul for the US Army. There, she met and married an Army civil servant. They later transferred to Japan where she continued her Army civil service employment. They then moved to Hawaii, where she was a US Navy civil servant. While in Hawaii, she became a US naturalized citizen and divorced shortly after. She then moved to Washington D.C., where she continued her work with the US Navy, now a procurement officer. She met Richard Campany and they were married in 1978, and had a daughter, Jennifer, in 1981. June later left the US Navy and began work at the General Services Administration, where she was responsible for US Government telecommunications contract services until her retirement in 2003.In retirement, June and Richard traveled extensively, to South America, Europe, Russia and the Baltic, Australia, and Iceland. Her favorite trip was a three week tour of the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and the Antarctic. She also began dancing, enjoying all types of dance especially hula, Irish, and Korean.
