June Darlene Schrock

June Darlene Schrock

May 5, 1938 March 14, 2026

Harrisonburg, VA

June Darlene (Bontrager) Schrock, 87, died peacefully at her home in the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on March 14, 2026, following a brief and sudden decline.

Born on May 5, 1938, in Buffalo, New York, to Eli and Sarah (Roth) Bontrager, June graduated from Eastern Mennonite High School in 1957. That same year she married Paul M. Schrock, who passed away in 2011. She was also preceded in death by their infant son, Douglas Paul, who died in 1968 from Rh incompatibility. In the wake of that loss, June became the first donor in Pennsylvania to give blood for RhoGam injection therapy, a contribution that helped establish a treatment now credited with saving thousands of lives.

June and Paul raised their family in Scottdale, Pennsylvania, where they were longtime members of Kingview Mennonite Church. She had a remarkable gift for creating beauty and warmth in every space she touched, whether through decorating her home, hosting family gatherings, or welcoming guests to the bed-and-breakfast, Inn The Woods, which she and Paul operated for five years. In 1979, June earned a degree from Westmoreland Community College and became a registered nurse. She cared for patients in labor and delivery, on the OB floor, and in the operating room at Frick Community Hospital, and later served as a field nurse for the Pennsylvania State Health Department. After moving to Harrisonburg in 2003, she continued her nursing career at the Family Birthplace at Rockingham Memorial Hospital and in an oral surgeon’s practice. She and Paul were active members of Park View Mennonite Church.

June found joy in competitive games of Scrabble, Rook, and Bridge, growing and arranging flowers, interior decorating, collecting antiques, cake decorating, embroidery, and brisk walks. In earlier years she was a gifted seamstress and, with Paul, part owner of the Scottdale Fabric Shop. She delighted in attending her grandchildren’s music programs and sporting events and cherished the companionship of her Yorkshire terrier, Bailey, especially after Paul’s death.

She is survived by her children, Carmen (Luke) Schrock-Hurst of Harrisonburg, Brent (Lori) Schrock of Lititz, Pennsylvania, and Andrea (Delbert) Wenger of Broadway, Virginia; grandchildren Grace (Yugo) Prasetyo of Jakarta, Indonesia, Lucas Schrock-Hurst of Harrisonburg, Caleb (Stephanie) Schrock-Hurst of Hualien, Taiwan, Eli Wenger of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Leah (Michael Djabarov) Wenger of Baltimore, Maryland; and great-grandsons Jeremiah and Simeon Prasetyo. She is also survived by her sisters Lucille Yoder, Charlotte Bontrager, her identical twin Joyce Millslagle, Candace (Donald) Frey, and Bonnie Norris, along with many beloved nieces and nephews from both the Bontrager and Schrock families.
