Julia McCain Harper, 87, of Huntsville, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2026. Born on October 4, 1938, in Boaz, Alabama, to Borton Thomas McCain and Katie Wright McCain, she lived a life marked by creativity, joy, and deep connection with those around her.
Julia found particular delight in square dancing as a longtime member of the Tanglefeet dancing troupe. She and her husband, Ernest, traveled each year to Panama City for dancing events, where they shared meals and lively evenings with friends from across the country. She was also an accomplished needleworker and beadworker, and a proud member of the Embroidery Guild of America. Her artistic spirit and warm presence left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Traci Pritchett (Duane), Donald Pritchett (Mary), and Margaret Harper Mays (Steve); her granddaughter, Desiree Schofield (Pete); and her great-grandsons, Jacob Sato (Natalie), Alex Sato (Alisha), Collin Schofield, and Jeremian Schofield. Julia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ernest Harper.
